Welcome to Burton End Primary Academy Nursery.
We are very lucky to have our own Nursery on site at Burton End Primary. Our outdoor space has recently been redeveloped to encourage a more natural and child-centered approach to learning outdoors to match our ethos indoors.
At Burton End Nursery we are committed to ensuring our children are fully engaged and filled with curiosity towards their learning. As such we follow In The Moment Planning and the Curiosity Approach, which promotes child-led learning and allows staff to identify learning opportunities during their play. In this way we enable our children to investigate and explore, whilst moving their learning on to the next step with skilled practitioner support. Our natural and child centered environment allows children to become resilient and independent learners by accessing resources of their own choice.
Each child's progress is carefully observed and enhanced by staff who engage and interact with them in their interests, meeting their needs and supporting them to make progress. These observations and learning opportunities are recorded on the Early Excellence Assessment Tool (EExAT). This is an online platform that is used to record evidence through photos and written notes, which is then shared with families.
As part of a 'Success For All' (SFA) school, in Nursery we follow their programme by having a 5 minute Maths and short Phonics sessions everyday. As children transition from Nursery to Reception, they start their Reception year with a stronger foundation in Phonics and Maths having used a similar approach in Nursery that will be used in Reception.
SFA also focuses on teaching children positive learning dispositions called 'Co-operative Learning Goals', which also supports the Characteristics of Effective Learning used through the Early Years. These learning goals also support our school RESPECT values. The three approaches to learning dispositions used in the Early Years and school, underpin the learning and development across all areas of the EYFS curriculum and support our children to remain curious and motivated learners throughout the Early Years and their continued journey through school.

Transition to Reception:
Children who successfully apply and gain a place at our Reception classes benefit from an enhanced transition process and on the whole settle quickly into Reception in September.
Please note: Children who attend our Nursery do not automatically get a place in our Reception classes. Application forms will need to be completed.
