Nursery
Welcome to Our Nursery
We are very lucky to have our own Nursery on site at Burton End Primary.
At Burton End Nursery we are committed to ensuring our children are fully engaged and filled with curiosity towards their learning. As such we follow In The Moment Planning and the Curiosity Approach, which promotes child-led learning and allows staff to identify learning opportunities during their play. In this way we enable our children to investigate and explore, whilst moving their learning on to the next step with skilled practitioner support. Our natural and child centered environment allows children to become resilient and independent learners by accessing resources of their own choice.
Each child’s progress is carefully observed and enhanced by staff who engage and interact with them in their interests, meeting their needs and supporting them to make progress. These observations and learning opportunities are recorded and sent to parents through Class Dojo.
In Nursery we have a 5 minute Maths and short Phonics Phase 1 sessions everyday. As children transition from Nursery to Reception, they start their Reception year with a stronger foundation in Phonics and Maths having used a similar approach in Nursery that will be used in Reception.
Our school RESPECT values also support the Characteristics of Effective Learning used through the Early Years Development Matters Curriculum Framework. The approach to learning dispositions used in the Early Years and school, underpin the learning and development across all areas of the EYFS curriculum and support our children to remain curious and motivated learners throughout the Early Years and their continued journey through school.
Our Curriculum
We have carefully mapped out a Long Term plan to supports children in developing the knowledge, skills and concepts that underpin all future learning at Burton End School. Our curriculum is carefully matched to individual children’s needs, as well as the learning intentions outlined in Development Matters. We also ensure that foundational knowledge is introduced in Nursery that supports the CUSP curriculum children undertake in Years 1-6. Our Long Term plan, and Knowledge Progression Maps are available on the right of this page.
